Alpha Engineered Composites acquires Fairprene unit

Alpha Engineered Composites, manufacturers of industrial fabrics, composites and engineered elastomers including non-metallic expansion joints, acquired the Fairprene business unit from Virginia-based Longwood Elastomers, a Wabtec Company. The transfer of ownership went into effect in January, 2018.

“Distributors, fabricators and end users will benefit from Alpha’s renewed focus, additional resources and advanced material competences in unique fabric substrates and proprietary rubber compounds” said Christopher Avallone, CEO of Alpha Engineered Composites.

Fairprene is known across the automotive, fluid sealing, petrochemical and aerospace industries for their technical niche in performance sheet stock, coated fabrics and specialty composites. Alpha Engineered Composites specializes in calendering and curing silicone, fluorosilicone, fluoroelastomer, HNBR and other high-performance elastomers.

According to the company, the purchase of the Fairprene brand and technology will create greater value, spur innovation and provide the diaphragm market with sophisticated and diverse capabilities.

“To help customers grow their business with expanded solutions, services and support, the Fairprene business unit will be integrated into Alpha North America and operate within the Engineered Elastomers product line” said Avallone.
