Linde secures major Russian LNG plant deal

The Linde Group has secured a major contract with Russian engineering holding SRDI Oil & Gas Peton to construct a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant that will produce around 1.5 million tonnes of LNG per year.

The industrial gas corporation was selected by Gazprom and Project EPC contractor SRDI Oil & Gas Peton as the licenser for the mid-scale LNG production, storage and shipment complex in Portovaya, Russia.

Located near the edge of the Baltic Sea, the new plant will liquefy natural gas coming from the nearby compressor station which is part of Gazprom’s Nord Stream pipeline. The Tier One corporation will perform basic engineering for the process plant and will supply all equipment and related bulk material for the cryogenic units of the site. The site will utilise Linde’s LIMUM® technology, a multi-stage mixed refrigerant process, applying its proprietary coil wound heat exchangers.

Both Linde and Gazprom are already cooperating on the Amur Gas Processing Plant (GPP) in the far east of Russia. When completed, Amur GPP will include the world’s largest helium (He) production facility as well as being one of the largest plants in the world, producing up to 49 billion m3 of natural gas per year.
